Quick Tips
jpeg or gif?
- Joint Photographic Experts Group (jpeg or jpg) is used for photographs; images with a lot of color and a lot of variation between colors.
- Graphic Interchange Format (gif) is used for logos or clip art; images consisting of flat colors or those without gradients or a lot of variation between colors.
file size and image size
- File size is how much disk space the file takes up.
- Image size refers to the physical dimensions (height and width) of the image.
- The goal is to get maximum image quality while maintaining a minimal file size.
Always make the image size true to the final size you intend to display it as on a Web page. NEVER size an image on a Web page using HTML code.
Always save an original copy of the image. Once changes are made to the image and saved it can be difficult, and sometimes impossible, to get back to the quality of the original.
