The University's learning management system, called "Carmen," delivers a variety of interactive tools in a secure environment enabling faculty to develop and deliver high-quality, interactive, educational content across the Web. To begin developing your course Web site, please contact INSTRUCTIONALservices. Please include in your message the course name and number, the quarter the course will be offered, and what you would like to accomplish with the Web site.
The process for designing a course Web site involves:
Things to consider:
- Think critically about the Web features you wish to incorporate into your classroom. Some technologies may require the use of experts.
- Attend a training session or workshop. During our workshops we explore the tools, technologies, and approaches used by your colleagues.
- Create a blueprint for your online course. Sketch out the specific Web pages, links, and supplemental resources you envision using.
- Review and discuss your plan with colleagues. Consider soliciting student input as well. The clearer your vision is for your online course, the easier it will be to develop it.
- Formulate a production plan factoring in the requisite people, technologies and timelines. This may include:
- Digitizing your content (e.g., text, images, digital video, audio, etc.) to make it easier to manipulate.
- Begin developing your Web content by converting Microsoft Word and PowerPoint materials into HTML format.
- Once you have assembled a reasonable amount of material, begin incorporating it into your course site.
