Q: Which printer is printing my document?

A: Default Printer locations

Each computer in the lab is set to print to a specified printer by default. They are divided by their location in the lab. If you are not sure which printer you are printing to, please ask the lab monitor on duty.

Q: How do I change which printer my documents are sent to?

A: Changing Print Location

If the printer assigned to the section of the lab you are sitting in is busy and one of the other printers is free, you can change which printer your document is sent to.

  1. In the program you wish to print from, click the File menu and choose Print.
  2. You will be presented with the print dialog. In the field labled Printer Name, the number in parenthesis corresponds to the printer number labeled above each printer.
  3. Use the pull down menu to select one of the open printers. Press the OK button.
  4. Please keep in mind that you are only changing the printer for the current document you are printing. You will have to change the printer setting each time you want a new document to be sent to a printer other than the default.

Q: There is something wrong with the printer (paper jam, out of paper, toner low). What do I do?

A: Please inform the lab monitor of the problem. They will resolve the problem as soon as possible. Do not attempt to clear a paper jam yourself.

A: Duplex Printing

  1. To make your document print on only one side of the paper, first open the document you wish to print.
  2. In the program you are printing from, click on the File menu and choose Print.
  3. Once you are presented with the print dialog window, click on the properties button.
  4. On the print properties window, locate and click to REMOVE THE CHECK from the box labled "Print on Both Sides".
  5. Click OK. Click OK again on the print dialog window to begin printing your document.

Q: How do I print multiple pages on one sheet of paper?

A: Multiple pages per sheet

Please note this function is not available in all programs. It is most often used with Microsoft Word.

  1. Open the multiple page document.
  2. Click on the File menu and choose Print.
  3. Once you are presented with the print dialog window, click on the properties button.
  4. Locate the setting for "Pages per Sheet".
  5. Increase the number to the number of pages you want to print out per page. Then use the pull down menu to set the order in which the pages will be printed on the page. You also have the option to add borders around each page.
  6. To verify that the pages are laid out the way you want them, look at the graphic in the upper right.
  7. Click OK. Click OK again on the print dialog window to begin printing your document.

Q: How do I print more than one Power Point slide per page?

A: Power Point Printing

  1. Open the Power Point Presentation you wish to print out (This must be the actual Power Point file (.ppt); either open in the Power Point Application or the browser plugin. This will not work using a Power Point presention that has been exported to the web).
  2. In Power Point, click the File menu and choose Print.
  3. At the bottom of the print dialog window you will see the Power Point specific options.
  4. Under "Print what:" pull down the menu and select Handouts. You can then choose the number of slides per page and whether they should be ordered horizontally or vertically. If you would like to have space to take notes beside each slide, set the number of slides to 3. It will automatically add blank lines next to each slide.
  5. Click OK to begin printing the presentation.
